Frost & Sullivan Lauds VidSys as Emerging Company of the Year in the Integrated Security Market

Palo Alto, Calif. - July 29, 2008 - Based on its recent analysis of the integrated security systems market, Frost & Sullivan recognizes VidSys, Inc. with the 2008 North American Frost & Sullivan Award for Emerging Company of the Year in recognition of its product innovation capabilities in introducing the VidShield physical security information management (PSIM) platform to help bridge the gap between the information technology (IT) and the security industries.

"Essentially, VidSys offers end-to-end situation management through out-of-the-box integration and analysis of alarms and events from a variety of security or surveillance devices, such as access control, RFID, video cameras/recorders, CBRNE systems, fire alarms and other sensors and security systems," explains Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst George C. Paul.

An end-to-end integrated security system requires a combination of sub-systems, such as video surveillance, access control, intrusion detection, fire and safety, time and attendance, and visitor management into a single control system. The various sub-systems generate video, data, and alerts from disparate devices. These signals need to be routed, recognized, and interpreted to obtain actionable information.

Leveraging the VidSys proprietary Open PSIM Platform, VidShield combines all of these sub-systems using a routing layer and a device adaptation layer, enabling in-built intelligence engines to interpret signals and provide actionable information.

VidShield has already been successfully deployed in cities such as New York and Washington, DC, and many other operational centers. VidSys has focused on federal, state and local government applications as well as enterprise settings in the transportation, gaming and financial services industries, for which the software is being used in a number of the world's largest unified command and control centers.

VidShield is platform-independent, and can run on any operating system. Since there are no established standards for security devices, the VidShield is scalable to accommodate new devices, which are field-loadable. Videos compressed in formats such as MPEG2, MPEG4, MJPEG, and even analog videos, can be played using the built-in player.

VidShield also has built-in event correlation that can automate responses based on pre-programmed policies, and a virtual tracker that can track people or assets across multiple screens or camera feeds. Integration with Google Maps has enabled the VidShield to map assets and events onto city-scale maps, harnessing the power of the Internet, while maintaining security. This is extremely useful in applications such as city and traffic management.

In most cases, the lack of standards in the security market is a restraint that forces custom development of device drivers for compatibility. This challenge to integration can be overcome by partnership programs that lead to compatible products, which organizations can choose from.

Vidsys has its own VidSys technology partnership program and currently partners with Barco, Cisco and Steelbox Networks, Inc. It has also received the MOTOMESH-ready validation from Motorola for VidShield, which demonstrates the platform's compatibility to integrate applications across Motorola's MOTOMESH wireless broadband network.

"By focusing on the complete integration of security systems, and overlaying intelligence engines to assist situational awareness, VidSys is able to provide a solution compatible with different devices, while at the same time providing the highest security required for some of the verticals," notes Paul. "For its demonstrated excellence in technology innovation and strategic partnerships to advance the integration of security systems, the company is the deserving recipient of the 2008 Emerging Company of the Year Award in the North American integrated security market."

Each year, Frost & Sullivan presents this Award to the company that has emerged as a significant participant within its industry. The Award recognizes outstanding management, superior market growth, exceptional customer service and the ability to combine technology and successful strategic initiatives. It also lauds the exceptional know-how to take advantage of market changes and the execution of innovative strategies within the existing competitive landscape.

Frost & Sullivan Best Practices Awards recognize companies in a variety of regional and global markets for demonstrating outstanding achievement and superior performance in areas such as leadership, technological innovation, customer service, and strategic product development. Industry analysts compare market participants and measure performance through in-depth interviews, analysis, and extensive secondary research in order to identify best practices in the industry.
