Police Chief Vidsys Product Feature, “In the Cloud: An Easy Path to Efficiency”

Below see an excerpt from POlice Chief Magazine’s interview with Vidsys Vice President of Strategic Marketing and Alliances, Roberto Mandanas.

Cloud computing has opened up a host of new possibilities for many industries, and law enforcement is no exception. The technology, which, in its current form, ascended to popularity in the mid-2000s, provides a service that is not unlike renting space in a storage facility. The cloud lets users store data in large server networks, thus allowing those users to keep information in tan area outside their own networks. The large amount of storage the cloud provides brings better speed, convenience, efficiency, and flexibility to users who would be hard pressed to provide such capacities on their own.

For the law enforcement sector, the cloud can be used for everything from high-level strategy to everyday operations. In all cases, expenses over time can be higher than they are for non-cloud solutions (think renting versus buying), but cloud providers say that the investment is more than returned with improved and streamlined functions.

A Wider Lens

Cameras and other surveillance equipment are commonplace in many cities. Even so, it can be difficult for law enforcement to tap into the right resource, at the right place, and at the right time. Converged Security Information Management (CSIM) is a cloud-oriented solution created by Vidsys, a software company based in Vienna, Virginia, and it empowers police to solve this challenge. CSIM helps agencies collect, analyze, verify, resolve, and track information. Users also can determine ahead of time what data should be included or excluded in a given search, with searches occurring based on time, location, or frequency, among other factors. “It takes data from a variety of sources—it could be a camera, it could be closed caption TV, it could be something else,” said Roberto Mandanas, Vidsys’ vice president of strategic marketing and alliances. “We integrate it, organize it, and make it actionable. It’s true situation management.”

The software is programmed to identify potential situations and then present those data points to a command center operator. Authorized users can access CSIM from any Internet-connected device for maximum real-time situational awareness. According to Mandanas, CSIM has potential applications across both law enforcement and public safety. “It could be a shot fired, or it could be a lost child,” Mandanas said. “The screen comes up, and you can click to see all the assets around [a given location]. There would be a map of cameras around where a gunshot took place and then you can form an action plan. It gives you a dynamic, step-by-step plan to manage the incident.”

AsMag: Vidsys CSIM supports UAE smart city objectives through the Hassantuk Program

Below is an excerpt from AsMag, featuring Vidsys’ recent announcement that Injazat Data Systems will employ our CSIM platform as part of the UAE’s Hassantuk program.

This Smart and Safe City program aims to reduce the cost of inspecting buildings and provide central monitoring of fire and life safety events for over 150,000 buildings across the UAE. Legislation has been passed mandating all addressable buildings must connect to Hassantuk for monitoring equipment and provision of service. Injazat Data Systems is the service provider under the Ministry of Interior (MOI) for the ten-year Hassantuk program.

A centralized dashboard visualization layer will be provided by Vidsys CSIM, with a unified interface for operators on a 24×7 basis. The CSIM platform will provide filtering and correlation of all alarms and events based on location, type, and priority, and will present automated Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) for the operator to follow dynamically, along with real-time reporting.

SourceSecurity: Cybersecurity and artificial intelligence key security themes at ASIS 2017

Below is an excerpt from SourceSecurity’s recap of ASIS 2017 conference, including an interview with Vidsys Vice President, Systems & Solutions Engineering, Neil Chung.

Transport, Enterprise And Smart Cities

Some of the companies seeking to leverage the power of the ASIS show did not have booths on the show floor. Some players, such as Vidsys, met with end users and integrators in meeting rooms in the adjacent Omni hotel. (Vidsys was also a partner in the Motorola booth.) “It’s the largest turnout we have ever had,” said Neil Chung, Vidsys vice president, systems and solutions engineering.

The converged security and information management (CSIM) company was highlighting a suite of video and big data analytics capabilities added to their system through a partnership with Micro Focus. The AI system works “in the background” to characterize and filter out anomalies (false positives) to alert customers only to situations that require attention. Vidsys focuses on large transportation, commercial campus/enterprise customers, and smart cities, where they interface with a variety of sensors.

“The most excitement is over our social media integration and how external events can affect their business,” says Chung. In addition to security and other internal systems, Vidsys can monitor outside sources, such as RSS and Twitter feeds through technology partners such as DataMiner. “If an event happens near a customer facility, we can use our business rules to notify them. People are realising that there’s more information outside the systems that they control, and they want to start taking advantage of it.”

Vidsys Featured in ASIS 2017 Subject Matter Expert Guide

Vidsys Founder & CEO James Chong was featured in the 2017 ASIS Subject Matter Expert Guide at the show. See an excerpt from his Q&A below.

What is the biggest challenge facing the industry today?

The challenge many organizations face today, is that there is a massive amount of data that is being collected that is neither actionable nor intelligent. This is a huge challenge for companies to figure out how to manage all of the incoming data, and not just manage it, but to use it effectively. From cameras to access control to all kinds of RFID or GPS devices generating data, organizations need an intelligent system that can pull in all of this information to visualize and unify what is going on, and provide procedures and action plans
when a particular situation is occurring.

What do you see as the greatest opportunity for innovation?

Smart buildings, cities and communities are going to transform that way that we live, work, eat and travel. We are already seeing many of these innovations for smart parking, lighting, public safety and more, but the solutions will continue to expand to improve our quality of life. The use cases are truly endless. Traffic management is one area where we are starting to see big things happen. Transportation departments are integrating with hardware around the city to understand traffic flow patterns, including how many people are going in what direction at what time, and can then in real-time change the programs so that there is a smoother flow of traffic around the city. This is one example of how a city can help its citizens in a tangible way, and Vidsys is excited to be a part of projects like these that are positively impacting everyday people’s lives.
